Effenberger and later A. Otta, discovered a number of surface sites of the Middle Palaeolithic and partial Upper Palaeolithic (Szeletian, Aurignacian), among these was Trboušany IIb lying at the foot of wooded hills at an altitude of between 222 m and 251 m. Eleven pits were excavated at the site that did not provide any positive findings. The findings appear to have lain in some sediment, which was converted to Holocene topsoil. The industry is technologically and typologically characterised by ancient and progressive markings, which do not contain any elements of the Levallois method. Their crucial feature is the creation of bifacial artifacts, especially small bifaces, less so leaf points and bifaces. The industry is classified as the latter phase of the Micoquian in their development towards Szeletian. It is also considered that the development of the Micoquian to the Szeletian occured spontaneously or resulting from some non-cultural process. ER -
