N2  - This paper examines the chronostratigraphic and archaeological records of eastern Europe dating to the Late Middle and Early Upper Paleolithic. After an in-depth discussion of this record, it argues that, as elsewhere in Europe, the sum of the available data, together with paleoanthropological evidence, suggest an acculturation of indigenous Neanderthal groups to incoming anatomically modern humans.
