N2  - The present paper discusses fundamental difficulties in facial reconstruction. What makes an individual face recognizable is considered to be mainly dependent on the subjective ability of shape perception. The current preference of quantitative to qualitative criterions also in matters depending only on morphological characters is called in question. Artistic intuition and methodical exactness are not conceived as oppositions but as completion. The practical advantages of a graphic technique in reconstruction are explained and demonstrated in two examples.
