N2  - Recent investigations have provided much information on the rock-art sites of the Messak Plateau (Libyan Sahara) - the general significance of the earliest art of this area remains a matter for much future research, but there are indications of generalized similarities between the symbolic assemblages responsible for some of the rock-drawings of the Messak and some of the ideas which were responsible for artistic development in the Nile Valley.
