The main contribution of German research to arctic archaeology in the 20th century resulted out of fieldwork done on Banks Island in the early 1970s. The results of this research are reviewed in more detail in the context of recent knowledge. The article ends with a discussion of results which may be of interest to Palaeolithic archaeologists ER -
