N2  - As part of increasingly frequent rescue archaeological excavations, greater attention has recently been
paid to Palaeolithic and Mesolithic sites in the Czech Republic. During preparations for the construction of the D35 motorway in eastern Bohemia, in the cadastral territory of the municipality of Vraclav, a collection of chipped stone artefacts was uncovered, which, based on raw material, technological, and typological analysis, was dated to the Late
Palaeolithic period. From the climatic point of view, it is the Late Glacial period, when loess deposition was already
coming to an end, and sites from this period are therefore stratigraphically deposited shallowly below the surface at
the interface between the underlying loess and the overlying Holocene soils. However, in agriculturally cultivated
landscapes, most sites from this period were ploughed up, and the remains of hunter-gatherer settlements, mostly
reduced to stone artefacts, ended up in a secondary position in the topsoil and underlying subsoil. This was also the case
at the Vraclav site, which is why most of the natural science analyses commonly applied at stratified sites, including
absolute dating methods, could not be used here. The authors of this article therefore limited themselves to a detailed
raw material, technological, and typological analyses of the obtained collection of chipped stone industry and its classification within the framework of previously published eastern Bohemian collections of the Late Palaeolithic age.
