A multiple choice questionnaire was developed containing questions about the motives of alms giving, perceptions about the reasons for begging, as well as questions about respondents' status and welfare, age, sex and ethnicity. Self-report data were collected from 497 Moscow students. Significant sex differences in attitude towards beggars were found and givers with high social status were generally inclined to donate more frequently than those with low status. Greater favoritism was expressed by male respondents, towards beggars belonging to the ethnic majority, offering further support for Ethnic Nepotism Theory. ER -
