Three main Neolithic styles are recognized namely the archaic one including the large wild fauna, archers and some examples of earliest domesticated cattle; the round head style and the typical bovidian pastoral style. It was recognized that the relative chronology usually used in the Saharan rock art studies is not fully reliable. It is highly probable that these three styles represent divers populations with divers mode of life but with distinct cultural contacts in religious and artistic traditions. The communicative role (visual pictorial communication) of this Neolithic rock art is stressed. ER -
