N2  - The musical performances of several Tsonga bow players are compared, analyzed and discussed. The typical player adapts tribal beer songs so that they become playable on the instrument, and he uses various ingenious compositional techniques to do this, such as octave transposition, stretching and compressing notes so that the rubbing stick can cope with them, lowering a major third to a minor third, and including the desired melody note by representing it as the lower of two simultaneously sounded bow notes.
