JAROSLAV PALLIARDI

Jaroslav Palliardi (* February 10, 1861 in Třebíč, † March 12, 1922 in Moravské Budějovice)

After his studies he worked as a notary in Moravské Budějovice and from the 1880s he dealt systematically with archaeology. His speciality was Neolithic. His collection (today in the Archaeological Institute of the Moravian Museum) gave a complex view of Moravian Neolithic. From 1893-1900 he edited the Journal of the Patriotic Museum Association in Olomouc where he also published some of his articles. His most important works are "Neolitischen Ansiedlungen mit bemalter Keramik in Mähren und Niederösterreich" (Neolithic settlements with painted ceramics in Moravia and Lower Austria)(1897) and "Die relative Chronologie der jüngeren Steinzeit in Mähren" (The relative chronology of the Neolithic in Moravia)(1911). Palliardi's chronology was for a long time a model and a reference for Czechoslovak and foreign archaeologists.
