The Moravian Museum, the second biggest and oldest museum in
the Czech
Republic, was founded in July 1817 by a decree of Emperor Francis I.
The museum's collections include over 6 millions objects,
representing a valuable scientific material from the fields of literature,
music and theatre, geology, mineralogy, botany, zoology and entomology.
In addition to its scientific and documentation work
the museum organises temporary exhibitions, lectures etc.
The Children's Museum, a special education and leisure facility,
is dedicated to the youngest generation of museum visitors.
The Moravian Museum is a state-funded organization of the Ministry of culture of
the Czech Republic.
The Moravian Museum is a research oriented institution; its main task is to carry out the
basic and applied research, to disseminate its results by the means of teaching,
publications or technology transfer in the frame of the museum activities.
