Abstract
As a result of the evolutionary perception of Neanderthals in human evolution, there has been a tendency to explain their distinctiveness by biological adaptive changes during their life. The present paper is an attempt to discuss some of the data used in discussions regarding Neanderthal ontogeny and to question the evidence for an accelerated maturation of Neanderthal children.
