Abstract
The coherence of the rock art already recorded in the Messak Plateau (S-W Libya) induces one to tackle again the recurrent problem of its signification. Highly suggestive here are the particular layout of several thematic elements associated to small caves, and the regularity of some combinations like the «ovaloid and woman» motif. The object of this article is not to decipher the engravings of the Messak area, but to propose a tentative approach of the mythological thoughts regulating the artists' work.
