Abstract | Prevalence of non-communicable disease (NCD) risk factors were compared between Jaat (n = 50) and Vaishya (n = 50) men of Faridabad, Haryana. Data on demographic, behavioral, and socio-economic status were collected. Anthropometric and blood pressure measurements were made. A blood sample was collected, plasma glucose and lipid profile were assayed on an autoanalyzer. Significantly higher mean height (P = 0.000), waist-hip ratio (P = 0.000), triglycerides (P = 0.045), total-C/HDL-C (P = 0.014) and LDL-C/HDL-C (P = 0.015) was observed in Jaat when compared to Vaishya men. In Vaishya, significantly higher mean BMI (P = 0.000) and hip circumference (P = 0.001) were found against Jaat men. Higher prevalence of smoking (P = 0.015), alcohol intake (P = 0.000) and high total-C/HDL-C (P = 0.001) in Jaat against Vaishya men, whereas the higher prevalence of hypertension (P = 0.027), positive family history of CAD (P = 0.039) and general obesity (P = 0.000) in Vaishya, when compared to Jaat men, was observed. The results of the present study suggested that population-specific approaches and interventions are needed to screen populations and to reduce the burden of NCDs in India. | | Keywords | Social group-Obesity-Hypertension-Diabetes mellitus – Type 2 –Hypercholesterolemia | | DOI | https://doi.org/10.26720/anthro.24.02.04.1 | |
