Abstract
Fifty-six 1st to 4th centrury British cemeteries show evidence for decapitation; twenty-six of these cemeteries are apparently late Roman. Evidence from two such will be presented: of the 421 individuals from Cirencester, at least nine given evidence for the employment of different methods of decapitation, which will be described, and possible explanations for the ritual will be offered.
