| Abstract | | The study of Jebel Ihroud endocasts is done in order to advance some arguments in the present discussion of their taxonomic position, after the publication of some articles which argued that the European hominids could go to Africa through Gibraltar Detroit. The endocranial morphology shows similar characteristics observed on anatomically modern men like middle meningeal pattern, frontal reliefs intensity, outline of parietal formations or frontal and parietal ascending convolutions breadths. The two Jebel Ihroud endocasts have a plot of morphological characters like the Neanderthals, but they correspond to plesiomorphies. So they cannot be considered in our problematic resolution; for example the elongated encephalic rostrum or the presence of Sylvian valley. Considering Neanderthals autapomorphies, only endocranial general outline, which is low and wide, is comparably near in Jebel Ihroud and in the Neanderthals. | | | | Keywords | | Jebel Ihroud - Endocast - Anatomically modern man - Neanderthal | | | | Resume | | Une analyse de l'endocrâne des deux hominidés fossiles de Jebel Ihroud a été réalisée dans le but d'apporter des arguments dans la détermination de leur position taxinomique.
