Abstract

Mathematical representation of height growth of Czech children after data by KLEMENTA, KOMENDA and collaborators. After a brief review of almost a century's endeavours to analyze mathematically human height growth, attention is drawn to new possibilities elaborated by the author, and already tested for growth series from the GDR, FRG, England and Japan. The basic idea is gained from a look to the human growth curve, having the form of a simple parabola from birth to about pubescence. By adequate modifications a farther reaching basic growth function with restricted height development can be attained which has to be complemented by addition of a growth spurt term. The parameters of both func¬tions are adjusted by non-linear regressions or semigraphic methods for the height values of Czech children as compiled by KLEMENTA, KOMENDA and co-workers in 1970—1971 and 1978. This procedure seemed to involve a certain risk due to the lacking of data for children up to three years of age. After the same difficulties had been overcome for GDR values, work was taken up with the results of growth and increase determinations for the ♂ and ♀ given in tables and graphs in this paper. Finally a comparison of relative growth in respect to the final height is presented for six series of human growth.

Resume

Nach einer Rückschau auf die Bemühungen, das Humanwachstum der Körperhöhe mathematisch in den Griff zu bekommen, wird eine in jüngster Zeit vom Verfasser entwickelte Formulierung auf das Wachstum von ČSSR-Kindernnach Daten van KLEMENTA, KOMENDA, und Mitarbeitern angewandt. Dabei wird der Größenwuchs in eine Basisfunktion und den bekannten, aber a priori nicht definierbaren Wachstumsschub zerlegt, wobei nichtlineare Regressionen bzw. semigraphische Verfahren Verwendung finden. Die Ergebnisse für das Wachstum und den Zuwachs oder die Wachstumsgeschwindigkeit sind in Tabellen und graphischen Darstellungen wiedergegeben. Abschließend werden Empfehlungen für die Gewinnung von Wachstumsdaten in der Zukunft gegeben und die Wachstumsanteile am Endwert für sechs Meßserien aus verschiedenen Ländern nach Analysen des Verfassers einander gegenübergestellt.
